A remote ceremony

btw my instagram stories currently are a way of documenting my current mental health, no obligation to check, responses welcome but not required.

Mum’s funeral takes place next Friday 21st February, at 1pm UK time. She passed peacefully and on her own terms on 31st December.

I’ll be taking part live but remote from Gloucester, while my sister Thea curates proceedings from the crematorium in Whitley Bay.  And you are invited wherever and whenever you are.

I’ve suffered mental health challenges over the last few months that also prevented me from reaching Mum in time before she died, and the grief and pressure spiralling from that contributed to me being sectioned, almost ready to be discharged, healing but not quite there to be present.

It’s important to me to be as up front about it with everyone as possible; but actually to say nothing more because this funeral and celebration is about Mum and family. But happy to talk more if you like another time, or talk about something completely different. Or just smile with that awareness this hits us all sometimes, and we just need to find our feet.

Fortunately my sister Thea in Glasgow and myself have done pretty well as a sibling tag-team, and although she’s done a lot more particularly this last year, especially the practical, I spoke to mum most evenings since dad passed, and a lot of beautiful video calls near the end. Not the same but a complement. And over zoom Mum thrived to become one of Coney’s regular online audience, making friends wherever she beamed, including miraculous walks through Moscow and Hobart.

Mum chose her moment of passing, for the people she loved were all present in her heart, so if you were ever there, you are most welcome to join in however you choose to mark the time.

If there are any memories you want to send, stories or photos or audio, feel free. I’ll collate these into an album.

There will be a live stream, recorded, but I’ve also designed a short piece in tribute playtime for Edwina you can play wherever and whenever you are, especially with any small people you can find to join in this play.
